Mi A2: Detailed Review with Pros and Cons

Finally we have most awaited mid-range phone from Xiaomi in India. After global launch, MI A2 is available in India.  Mi A2 is launched at very good price point Compare to global price. You can buy this phone for INR 16999 exclusively from Amazon. This phone will become available via pre-orders and flash sales only. Most of us are not able to decide which phone to buy. Here we have detailed review of Mi A2 with list of pros and cons for you.

Processor and Performance of Mi A2:

This phone comes with Snapdragon 660 processor, whose performance is of flagship grade with artificial intelligence. For smooth graphic performance it sports Adreno 512 GPU. In India we have only one variant at this point of time i.e. 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage. You can play Pub G, Asphalt 9 and other high end games smoothly.  I found few frame drops while playing Pub G in HDR setting mode.

4 GB RAM on this phone is good enough to perform very smooth multi-tasking. We don’t have applications for android which could create issue for a 4 GB RAM phone. The best part of this phone is latest version of Android i.e. Android 8.1 Oreo. You will get guaranteed upgrade for next 2 versions of Android, As this phone comes with Android One program.

If you’re using any other Xiaomi phone, then you might miss few features of MIUI e.g. Dual App, Trash Cleaner, App lock with fingerprint, gesture for different operations, one handed mode etc. If we compare this phone with other on performance point, we don’t have an alternative under 20K or 22K in India.

Design of Mi A2:

Design of this phone is one of the biggest disadvantage for Mi A2. It comes with regular design which is used in almost every budget device from Xiaomi. These days we have many smartphone starting at 10K and comes with a Notch display on front. Thickness of MI A2 is 7.3 mm which is very good. This phone look very simple and does’t makes a big different.

These days we have very good design in Oppo, Vivo and Honor phones. if you’re willing to have a phone for show off, i’ll ask you wait for some time as Nokia 6.1, Nokia 5.1 and Lenovo 5z is coming to  India. As there is no notch at top, it has bezels on top and bottom. Due to these bezels, this phone look bulky.

Camera of Mi A2:

Talking about specifications of back camera, it comes with dual camera setup at back panel. Primary camera at back is  a 12 MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture size,  1.25µm pixel size however secondary camera at back panel is  20 MP sensor with f/1.75 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size. To focus any object faster, it comes with phase detection auto focus.

Primary camera of Mi A2 is to give sharp and detailed image in day light, however secondary camera is used to click images in low light. Images clicked in daylight consists lot of details and i can assure you that pictures are perfect and non of the phone have camera better than Mi A2 under 20K.

Low light photography on Mi A2 is very good as it have specific sensor to click low light images. I’ll appreciate Xiaomi to use secondary camera sensor for low light photography, because we can get bokeh effect with software intelligence implementation. For selfie lovers it comes with 20 MP front facing camera with f/2.2 aperture and 1.0µm pixel size. This camera clicks a perfect selfie for you.

Displayof Mi A2:

Mi A 2 sports 5.99 inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 1080 x 2160 pixels resolution. This display have very good viewing angles and color production. Compare to other phone display in not much bright enough for out door light conditions. As I already mentioned above this display concept looks old as today’s trend is for notch display.

Battery, Charging and Other Features:

Mi A2 is backed by a 3010 mAh non-removable battery. As a highlight it supports Quick Charge 4.0, hence you can charge this phone faster. You can get 5-6 hours of backup with a charge of 5 minutes. Mi A2 comes with USB Type-C port which helps in fast data transfer and fast charging.

We don’t have a 3.5 mm audio jack in this phone, which is a disappointment for me. Here I can’t use headphone while charging the phone. User need to have a a Bluetooth headphone which increases the overall pricing of this phone. It supports fast charging but inside the box we have a regular charger, which again increase over all cost of phone. I have covered most of the pros and cons. Let me know in comment if anything is missing.
